Unfortunately, I have not had time to get the names of specific Democrats (including not knowing whether one or both of the 30th District representatives are among them), in the Washington Legislature, who are following shady Speaker of the House, Frank Chopp, in basically trying to get rid of initiatives, although leaving the shell of the initiative system in place. The making-it-harder to file initiatives and get signatures bill has already passed the State Senate and has made its way to the House of Representatives for a vote, today. People would have to go through a rigorous registration procedure with the state in order to collect signatures under their bill, among other diminishing the initiative system factors in the bill.
Expect Reeves and Pellicciotti to follow Chopp's disdain for initiatives, the people's direct vote in democracy, after all, and a long Washington tradition that has been successfully used by conservatives, liberals and centrists. It would be a travesty of democracy if the initiative system is diminished so much that it would be rarely used anymore.
