It's not just the henpecked Pellicciotti that's falling under the sway of the militant feminist hysteria in the state legislature, but almost the entire House of Representatives, including Kristine Reeves, that effectively voted, re. HB 2360, that males who pay for consensual sex with an adult woman spend a year in jail (Rep. Wilcox didn't vote). It's ludicrous, amoral, and the state doesn't have the money to be locking up thousands of men for misdemeanors for quadrupled (4X) longer periods of time; nor will it put a dent in what is known as the world's oldest profession, but if it becomes law, will drive prostitution further underground.
The moralists in the Legislature wouldn't treat fornication or adultery anywhere near (wouldn't touch it, actually) like what they are doing to prostitution, but a lot of other moralists would say the former two are just as bad as -- or worst than -- paid sex; however, the Legislature should just stay out of the sexual moralizing business and leave people alone except being against sexual coercion or force, and to protect minors; and in fact, decriminalize paid sex or sex for pay, with the caveat of having the option to put limits on commercialization, but I wouldn't go too far in that direction, either. Hopefully, the bill will be stopped in the state Senate.
Post-script: It might be 100%, or close to, in the state House of Representatives, but of course there is not 100% support for this bill among the public in the State of Washington, and I would guess it's more like 50 - 50. As usual, an out-of-touch Legislature.
