I know how these long counts in Washington work, and being more than 2,000 votes behind (for making the "run-off") in the Mayoral election, for all intents and purposes, means that I will not make "Top 2," barring some miracle. Therefore, I'm supporting Ms. Honda for election in November, tonight.
Notice the operative word in the title of this post, "considering," so this post does not mandate a PDC reporting obligation, but I am considering a write-in campaign, with possible rivals being the 2 Ferrell-endorsed candidates for Position 6.
Even if it were practical, which tonight's results shows that it's probably not -- even though a lack of campaign funds has a lot to do with that -- I cannot legally run (or win) as a write-in for mayor in November since I was on the ballot for the Primary (I understand election law well, as being runner-up for Director of Elections in 2011 may indicate). However, I could mount a write-in campaign for Council in this year's November election if I decided to, and I just might.
If I ran as a write-in, I probably would not give the Elections Department the 140-or-so dollars to officially declare the candidacy -- even if the Mirror might take my would-be candidacy a tad more seriously if I did so (but a "tad" is not worth it) -- as that's not legally necessary to win the position. That money would be better off buying campaign paraphernalia, and as long as a plurality writes Mark Greene -- correctly spelled (with the "e" at the end of my surname) -- I can win regardless of whether a declaration is filed with Elections or not. To be honest, the best case scenario, if I ran, is getting thirty-four per cent: 34%-33%-33%.
I just learned, through "Rogue-ner's" recent article, that Bob Celski is a campaign chair for the mayor. I already knew that everybody on the Council, except Honda, of course, was supporting Ferrell, but I didn't know that Celski's support went beyond a mere thumbs-up. Therefore, the Revived Citizens Party is rescinding the endorsement for Celski, and remaining neutral for Position #2. And, of course, if I run as a write-in for Position #6, the endorsement for Martin Moore would be rescinded.
