Will Join Honda & Maloney Wing of the Council, If Elected

As someone who hasn't been a member of a major party since 2006, and who has formed a new party, the Revived Citizens Party, which is an offshoot of the old Citizens Party of the 1980s (founded by Barry Commoner), I don't neatly fit into the differing political categorizations.  That said, I have no idea what party or parties that Councilwomen Susan Honda and Kelly Maloney ascribe to, but it hardly matters on a non-partisan Federal Way City Council, because their general agenda of fiscal responsibility and prudence in handling city affairs matches well with what my policy will be if I'm elected to the Council.

There will be a practical approach to handling affairs of the city that primarily focuses on basic city responsibilities: public safety, public health, infrastructure, zoning, provisional help for those who need a helping hand, etc.  In other words, heavy on practical city responsibilities, and virtually no fancy stuff.  And, speaking for myself, absolutely no increased city taxes on homeowners or renters before the year 2020.  Remember, there are a myriad of government taxes on citizens, the City Council only controls rates for one of those, as other government bodies, such as the King County Council, controls other taxes and rates.

Come January, I will be casting my vote for one of those two for Deputy Mayor (probably Honda, although I said Maloney originally, but now I'm thinking she might focus strictly on the mayor's office if "draft Maloney" succeeds).  I likely won't always agree with Honda or Maloney on every single issue, but with me being a rookie, they will have the leadership mantel and I will do everything I can to bring consensus to our wing, as well as expanding it to an all-important 4 councilmembers, or greater.  By the way, just because I will focus on basic responsibilities, doesn't mean that's mutually exclusive of an activist City Council that gets great things done.  They both go hand-in-hand.
