An Update regarding "Rogue-ner's" Position 1 Article: "At least he didn't say that I was 'genuinely nice.'"
It was late last night when I first wrote about Bob Roegner's (the unofficial Mirror political columnist) article, so I didn't get in all the points that I should have. First of all, "Rogue-ner" waited right until the election ballots were being mailed out to have his latest article (about Position 1) published, a full two weeks later than his last column about other Council candidates, and that's a thinly disguised overt attempt to sway the election to his biased point of view, which of course is favorable to my opponent in this election. Notice the word "should" in his analysis of how he believes things are likely to go my opponent's way, this is not a word that was emphasized in his other articles about candidates.
Also unusual, with respect to how he usually portrays candidates, was that he apparently thinks he is shaming me by listing practically all of the offices that I have ever run for, including in other states. As if a candidate that loses an election should never be heard from, again. However, I am proud of running for office several times, and offering the electorate real choices. It should be noted that in several of the offices that I ran for, there would have been no opposition whatsoever to the incumbent except for my running, including the King County Director of Elections in 2011. People tend to like my involvement in politics, so I suspect that "Rogue-ner's" attempt at "shaming" will be no more than a wash in persuading overall public opinion.
Naturally, "Rogue-ner" failed to mention that not only was I a candidate twice in Alaska, but won the primaries there twice, and thus was the Democratic nominee for the U.S. House of Representatives from Alaska in 2000 and 2002. As for his "Newcastle" mention, Roegner just slipped by the "dual residency" acknowledgement without a moment's thought, apparently, because I never told him that I left Newcastle permanently before the General Election of 2013 had passed.
Still, give credit where credit is due, as I've seen much worst from Roegner, and as I implied in the previous post, the ex-Mayor/journalist, though biased, was at least a little bit fair in the article, and said a few accurate and relevant things about me, even if overall he can't help but trying to be more kingmaker than reporter. Not Demoralized By Mirror's Cast of Sleaze
Despite the Federal Way's Mirror's columnist duo of "Rogue-ner" and "Stepin Fetchit," and general disrespect towards my candidacy, they have not shaken the energy of this grassroots campaign or my determination to win the election. In the first week of August, this paper couldn't find a little headline to note my Primary success, of course, and many people hadn't even realized that I made it into the General Election, but the general public now realizes that I made it through the Primary through the appearance of my name on the ballot. The Mirror treated me like last year's Establishment treated State Senator Pam Roach, and guess who won that election? I believe I will win. Thank you for your support!
