While at the July 8th Position #1 debate, I heard one of the most cogent and wise statements from either of my opponents by Anthony Murrietta, a Federal Way Commissioner. Murrietta implied that it was not right for the Council to keep delaying the Day Shelter for the homeless, and that more should be done than just to provide a hygienic and rest way station for people without homes. He said, in so many words, that Federal Way should provide counseling and assistance in general that would help the homeless get into jobs and provide for other needs that may help them along the road to stability and progress in their lives.
Murrietta is absolutely right about this, and also about protecting and advancing the rights of workers, as he is a strong leader in the labor movement, and president of a local Teamsters chapter. Anthony Murrietta is a leader of strength, courage and wisdom, and I would be honored to have his endorsement for the General Election, as I'm sure that Federal Way will see Murrietta rise in the leadership ranks before very long.
-- Mark Greene, Candidate for Federal Way City Council, Position 1
Post-script: The combined votes of myself and Anthony Murrietta were a 55% majority of all votes cast in the August 4th Primary for Position 1.
