Campaign '18

Campaigning is like a second job, so unless the would-be officeholder has the luxury of not having to work at a primary job, which I don't have that luxury, making a schedule that balances work, energy and recreation will be a little challenging, but one that I think I can do a better job of than last year.  The mayoral campaign had too many uncertainties and at least one major and unexpected personal obligation that got me off track, and I was never really able to get back on track by the time the primary rolled around.  This year there is no uncertainty; I will be on the ballot, and I don't think I will be sidelined by any obligations besides the usual work, even though things like that are often hard to foresee.

I have made one adjustment, already, from what I had wrote earlier; I decided to wait a little longer for the active campaigning, as the General Election was a month before the holiday season, as always, so probably a month's distance after the holidays for active campaigning would be just as apt; in others words, the beginning of February, or slightly earlier.  It's a good idea to give people a little space before bringing up politics, again, so that's what I've decided.

With Federal Way, the towns of Milton and Algona will be in this election as well.  Milton gave me strong support when I ran against Adam Smith and Paul Lord in 2004, so I'm looking forward to going out there, again.  Algona will be somewhat new for me, although there is a good possibility that I could win there since the incumbent, Reeves, apparently doesn't like to claim the town as her own hometown (she lists Federal Way instead of Algona on her campaign website).
