Mayoral Campaign May Be Upgraded in Early '17

I don't see any indications, so far, that either Kelly Maloney or Susan Honda are going to challenge Mayor Jim Ferrell's re-election, and the Revived Citizens Party is determined that Ferrell not run unopposed. Therefore, my campaign will probably be going from the exploratory to actual stage in early 2017 (January, to be a little more precise). The P.D.C. papers that have already been filed a couple of months ago will be revised to note the change in the campaign name and, perhaps, other minor changes. I will step down and seek other office if Maloney and/or Honda run. As for anybody other than those 2 councilwomen running, I may or may not step down; it will depend on who's running. I'm not likely to step down for anyone other than Maloney or Honda, and the longer it takes for someone else to announce, even less likely. If I make an actual run and I'm elected, I will hire somebody from Washington state (or, less likely, from another state) ...

Case Filed: Greene v. Huff & Wise

Judge Coughenour to Hear Case After I wrote about Judge John Coughenour the other day, about how he was fair-minded, and impliedly a no-nonsense judge, he actually was assigned this case, today, believe it or not. That's good news for justice, and justice may be good for overthrowing the Position 1 F.W. City Council election of November 3, 2015, and instituting a new election in its place. To put it succinctly, one term - one election. The summons has yet to be issued, but the sheriff's office is in the very same building as the King County Clerk, I believe, so it shouldn't be later than this week. Equal Protection Clause Invalidates "Two Terms, One Election"

Updated 11/19/15: see further below, after essay. In the year 2000 the U.S. Supreme Court ruled, in Bush v. Gore, that different standards of counting for the same office were a violation of the U.S.C.'s 14th Amendment, particularly the Equal Protection clause. I will rely on this case law to scuttle Washington's practice of having a single election for two different terms, regardless if one of the terms is shortened for good reason. Although, the "different standards of counting" will have a broader context in this case as opposed to the narrower context of how different counties within a state tabulate votes that Bush v. Gore focused on. It's obvious that terms in Washington are usually decided by voters one at a time, so to have the occasional one election for two separate terms is a different standard for electing public officials, especially when other officials/candidates for the same jurisdiction are being ...
