Elections and overall democracy in America are the most important political undertakings
that citizens can accomplish, because if we leave them only to those who
are beholden to big business, internationalist corporations and the richest and
most powerful elite, they would shrink and be used as just
another tool to keep the people at bay, and as such, a government
that bends to the will of the majority would be non-existent.
The complicated societies that make up the world today, depend on well-functioning governments, as the well-functioning component of that depends on the inclusion of all citizens having the right and the opportunity to shape the government through politics, democracy and a reliable and trusted election system. For people who say they're not into politics, that may well be the case, but there is no doubt that politics affects them in many aspects of their life. For those, who don't believe in politics, no politics, no democracy and no government is just "politics" by a different name.
Societies will be guided one way or the other, the only question is will it be by a dictator's edicts, unelected regimes, or the will of the people. I think most of us can agree that it should be the people who guide, a.k.a., the commoners, and therefore elections and democracy are a necessity for the fairest societies, but the processes of democracy must be watched like a hawk, because if it becomes so twisted or distorted that the name hardly has a true meaning anymore, then the guidepost of our American republic would be named hypocrisy. That's why reform is so important, because no reform pretty much assures going in reverse.
