Teaching Through Example

As I prepare for a probable mayoral campaign in Federal Way next year, as it's beginning to look like nobody else is going to run against Mayor Jim Ferrell, it will take some discipline to withstand distortion and sleaze from the Mirror's tag team of columnists, by not reacting with corresponding disrespectfulness.

The level of coarseness and profanity in our society, egged on by a significant part of the entertainment industry, seems to get more pronounced with every passing year, but the most productive way to counteract that is leading by example, making sure our own civil discourse is exemplary, and teaching those around us, especially our youth, that courtesy and professionalism are the building blocks of a respectful and flourishing society.
